A striking feature of the Neolithic period in Shetland, the most northerly part of Scotland, is the use of one major source, riebeckite felsite at North Roe, for the production of stone axeheads and objects known as Shetland knives. This lecture will explore recent work using a variety of approaches at the quarry site and the implications this has for our understanding of the role of felsite objects in the Neolithic period across the Shetland archipelago
