Social Democrats Society – University of Galway
"There is a profound disconnect between where we are as a country and where we need to be.” – Holly Cairns, TD & Leader of the Social Democrats
We’re the society for students who believe Ireland can do better — fairer, greener, more equal. The Social Democrats are a progressive party building a movement for change, and our campus society is here to bring that energy to student life.
We’re about action, not just talk. That means:
The Social Democrats believe politics should work for people, not the other way around. On campus, that means making sure student voices are heard loud and clear, whether you’re a first-year curious about politics, or a postgrad ready to run a campaign.
Join us if you want to imagine and create a fairer Ireland — starting right here at University of Galway.
We hope to meet you all at the socs fair and talk to you about the society and what you would like to do. Be sure to come over and say hi!
We are currently planning some weekly events for the society, which will be decided with the incoming committee. We hope to have a new topic every month and host some movie/book clubs based on the monthly topic, as well as discussing relevant policies.
