Ógra Shinn Féin is the youth wing of Ireland's largest political party, Sinn Féin. Our politics and activism are based around five key principles: Republicanism, Socialism, Feminism, Environmentalism and Internationalism.

"Our revenge will be the laughter of our children" - Bobby Sands Oglach na hEireann

If you remove the English Army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle., unless you set about the organization of the Socialist Republic your efforts will be in vain. She would rule you through her capitalists, through her landlords, through her financiers, through the whole array of commercial and individualist institutions she has planted in this country and watered with the tears of our mothers and the blood of our martyrs"

- James Connolly: Socialist, Trade unionist, Republican, Internationalism

Sinn Féin D'Arcy Mellows Cumann is a political society at NUIG, affiliated to Ógra Shinn Féin - the youth wing of Sinn Féin. Sinn Féin is the largest all-Ireland political party, with representatives across all corners of the island. We are an Irish Republican party, working on the basis of creating a 32 county socialist Irish Republic.

We are committed to pursuing a progressive republican movement within NUI Galway; campaigning on issues such as the illegal oppression of the Palestinian people, homelessness, mental health, feminism, worker's rights, presidential voting rights and climate action.

On top of being dedicated Republican activists, Ógra Shinn Féin promotes comradeship and fun, with social events throughout the year including Secret Santa, Christmas Parties, Trips away, Easter Parties, and of course social nights and pizza after our meetings.

Coming from an Irish republican socialist perspective, Sinn Féin NUIG believe in the protection of workers rights, LGBT rights, immigrant rights, the reunification of Ireland, international solidarity (Palestine, Catalunya, Basque country etc.), a socialist economy, anti-racism, anti-fascism, environmentalism and feminism.

Indeed, throughout the years, we have campaigned for an end to the direct provision system, the boycott of Israel, the introduction of same sex marriage, and currently are campaigning for Irish women's reproductive rights to be respected through a complete repeal of the 8th amendment from the constitution. We feel Ireland, north and south, need radical socialist politics in order for Irish people to gain equality in all aspects of their lives. Moreover, we feel that the actions of Irish right-wing governments have been overwhelmingly destructive to our nation both economically and socially.

For Ógra Shinn Féin, fairness to all people and quality of life for our citizens are demands that we will not capitulate on and are goals that we will work tirelessly towards in every aspect of our daily business.

We will win and we will have our country's independence restored and our nation governed in a peaceful way, protective to citizens vulnerable or otherwise with respect for the land we live on and true ownership of our historic resources. We will build the 32 county Irish socialist republic laid out in the 1916 proclamation.

Join today. Get involved - mobilise, organise, unite for your rights. Tiocfaidh ár lá!

Meetings

We notify our members of meetings and events through your college email, and we usually try to have meetings or events once a week. New members will have the opportunity to be elected to the Cumann’s Officer Board at our AGM in September, a week after our stall at societies day.

Our meetings and events are always on Wednesday evenings.
