The Effective Speakers Society aims to:
1. Develop confident and effective communicators by providing regular opportunities for students to practise public speaking, impromptu speaking, presentations, leadership and professional communication in a supportive environment.
2. Run approximately two society events per month, combining practical workshops with regular interactive member sessions. Events will include activities such as impromptu speaking, presentations, structured speaking exercises and other practical communication activities.
3. Provide meaningful opportunities for member development, with the aim that members who regularly participate leave the society with greater confidence and stronger practical communication skills.
4. Create an inclusive and approachable environment for speakers of all experience levels, particularly students who may initially lack confidence or experience in public speaking.
5. Build awareness of Effective Speakers across the University of Galway, with the long-term objective of establishing the society as a recognisable and accessible platform for students looking to develop their communication and leadership skills.
6. Engage external speakers and professionals, including founders, entrepreneurs, alumni and other experienced communicators, where appropriate, to expose members to real-world applications of effective communication.
7. Collaborate with other University of Galway societies and organisations where there is clear mutual benefit, creating joint events and opportunities that broaden participation and introduce Effective Speakers to new audiences.
8. Encourage active participation rather than passive membership, with a target of engaging and positively impacting at least 75 active participants throughout the academic year. Success will be measured through event participation, repeat attendance, member feedback and evidence of member development rather than membership numbers alone.
9. Establish a consistent identity and reputation for the society through regular activity, quality events, collaborations and visible engagement across campus, with success demonstrated by increased awareness of the society among the wider student body.
We host meetings based on everyone's schedules. We are a for students - by students society and therefore take the opinions of all members before scheduling any meetings or workshops.
