As part of Bog Week, Botany Soc will be travelling to a local farm to learn of about the incredible work being done to improve degraded bogs. We will have a tour of the area with an on-site ecologist and get our hands dirty with some restoration work!! This is a great opportunity for those looking for some restoration/sustainability volunteer work to pop on their C.V.
All members attending this trip must bring spare clothes, wellies and a packed lunch for the day.
Itinerary:
10:00-leave the Quad on campus
10:40-Arrive at farm (Derreighter Farm, Glengowla, Co. Galway, H91W56A)
10:50- Introduction talk from farmer John Sullivan
11:10-Introduction talk from organiser Terry
11:30-Ecologist Nuala leads walk and talk around farm
12:00-lunch
12:30- Restoration work
14:30- leaving remarks and departure
15:00/15:10- Arrive back on campus
Members are required to obey the following rules.
Members must:
• Be aware of the hazards involved
• Must follow instructions given by trip leaders and officers.
• Must attend any training provided.
• Must inform officers or trip leaders of any medical condition that may affect your ability to participate, or affect emergency first aid treatment.
• You are responsible for making an informed decision as to whether it is a suitable activity for you.
• You must never participate in potentially hazardous physical activities while under the influence of alcohol.
• Inform yourself of, and respect, local customs and laws
• Must stay in groups of no less than 3.
• Ensure in the event of receiving medical treatment that you are 100% satisfied that you have received all the medical treatment you require before being discharged.
• Note you are covered by University Insurance for the duration of the trip, any travel outside of the trip you will need your own travel insurance.
• Members must implement the buddy system and make sure the other 3 appointed are present and safe and ready to get on the bus.
