With over 100 Societies in University of Galway you are sure to find one for you.
The Literary And Debating Society of NUI Galway along with the NUIG Student Union, is proud to invite you all to attend a very special panel discussion focused on the housing crisis. We are currently in the middle of the worst housing and homelessness crisis this country has ever seen. Homelessness has risen to over 10,000 people and rents have skyrocketed, leaving so many people struggling each month with anxiety as to whether they can survive for the next month. Students around the country are surviving paycheck to paycheck. The housing crisis was the single most important thing to affect how people voted in the recent General Election and now you have the opportunity to hear from people who have dedicated themselves into fighting the homeless crisis. Rebuilding Ireland is clearly failing and with the recent news of Universities deciding to increase rents by 4% (the highest they are allowed), student awareness of the ongoing crisis is at an all time high. The panel will look at how we have managed to get to this point, what could and should be done differently and what is the way forward, what can we as students do as we move on into what is hopefully, a brighter future. So join us on Thursday the 27th of February at 7pm in the Kirwan Theatre in NUIG where we will be welcoming the following speakers: Cllr. Anthony Flynn, Independent Councillor for Dublin Central and CEO of Inner City Helping Homeless. John O'Connor - CEO of The Housing Agency Clare Austick - NUIG SU President COPE Galway rep. We hope to see you there! Literary and Debating Society
